In 1992, just after graduating from high school Amanda Bossard started her education in marine biology at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage,AK. Bossard started her commercial fishing career in 1999 when she was hired on board the vessel F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner converted to an ice-fish tender was owned by Murat Aritan. The fisherman has been in commercial fishing since 1993. Bossard who is engaged to Aritan, has joined their alliance to gain access to their industries. They both believe in conserving and profiting from renewable resources in the industry of seafood. Otolith is a direct wholesale seafood distributor was opened in 2007 by Bella Bossard (age 3), Andre Bossard (1 year old) and the Bossard's mother. Bossard had returned to Philadelphia after having two young children. Its name is a sweet reminder of her intimate expertise in fish biology as well as her husband's extensive involvement with the fishing industry, frequently keeping them apart for 5 months or more as they work towards economic and environmental objectives that reflect both their independence and dedication to the community in which they call home. Bossard and her children Andre 10 and Isabella 12 make their annual return for a visit to Southeast Alaska as deckhands to catch wild salmon in summer.
